Shams al-Din al-Samarqandi

Al-Samarqandī is known as mathematicians for his famous tract Kitāb Ashkāl al-ta’sīs (“Book on the Fundamental Theorems”).

Full Name: Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ashraf al-Ḥusaynī al-Samarqandī.

Arabic: شمس الدین سمرقندی

Born: 1250 AD.

Died: 1310 AD.

Origin: Samarkand, now in Uzbekistan.

Famous for: Astronomer and Mathematician.

Contributions: 

He wrote Synopsis of Astronomy, and produced a star catalogue for the year 1276–1277.

A short work of 20 pages which discusses 35 of Euclid’s propositions.
