He is credited to have built the first astrolabe in the Islamic world.

Along with Yaʿqūb ibn Ṭāriq, al-Fazārī helped translate the 7th century Indian astronomical text by Brahmagupta, the Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta, into Arabic as ‘Zij as-Sindhind
