Ibn Ṭufayl was an Andalusian Muslim writer, Islamic philosopher, Islamic theologian, physician, and astronomer. Known for his philosophical novel, Ḥayy bin Yaqẓān.

Full Name: Abū Bakr Muḥammad bin ʿAbd al-Malik bin Muḥammad bin Ṭufayl al-Qaysiyy al-ʾAndalusiyy.

Arabic: أبو بكر محمد بن عبد الملك بن محمد بن طفيل القيسي الأندلسي

Other Names: Abubacer Aben Tofail, Abubekar or Abu Jaafar Ebn Tophail.

Born: c. 1105.

Died: c. 1185.

Origin: Guadix, Andalusia, Almoravid dynasty.

Famous for: Early Islamic philosophy, literature, kalam, Islamic medicine.

Contributions: 

Wrote the first philosophical novel.

He played a major role in overturning the Ptolemaic ideas on astronomy

Introduced the concepts of autodidacticism and tabula rasa.
