Ibn Khaldun ابن خلدون
Ibn Khaldun is considered by many as the father of historiography, sociology, economics, and demography studies.
Full Name: Abū Zayd ‘Abd ar-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Khaldūn al-Ḥaḍramī.
Arabic: أبو زيد عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن خلدون الحضرمي
Born: 1332 AD.
Died: 1406 AD.
Origin: Tunis, Hafsid Sultanate.
Famous for: Sociologist, Philosopher, and Historian.
Contributions:
He has been called one of the most prominent Muslim and Arab scholars and historians.
He developed one of the earliest nonreligious philosophies of history.
He laid down the foundations of different fields of knowledge, in particular the science of civilization (al-‘umran).
He is also considered as the Father of Economics. Ibn Khaldun developed the basis of classical economics, whether in production, supply, or cost, but he also pioneered in consumption, demand, and utility.
