“Revealing the Methods of Evidence in the Doctrines of the Sect” is a book criticizing “the science of theology,” and the Ash’arite school of thought in particular, in which its author concludes by ruling the opinions of theologians invalid and that they are not suitable for either “the public” or “scholars.” The specification of the Ash’arite school of thought for criticism here is not as a school of thought opposing another theological school of speech issued by the critic, but rather because it represented the pinnacle of the development of the science of theology throughout the time of Ibn Rushd.
