al-Urdi العرضي

al-Urdi was one of the major figures of Islamic astronomy in the 13th century,  developing new and highly sophisticated planetary theories as well as invention of many astronomical instruments.

Full Name: Moayad Al-Din Al-Urdi Al-Amiri Al-Dimashqi.

Other Names: Mu’ayyad al-Din al-Urdi

Arabic: مؤيد الدين العرضي العامري الدمشقي

Born: 1200 AD.

Died: 1266 AD.

Origin: al‐Urd, Syria.

Famous for: Astronomer and Geometer.

Contributions: 

He took part in building the observatory outside Maragha, in Azerbaijān (now in northwest Iran) with al-Tusi.

He developed a number of astronomical instruments for observation of stars.
